Why community and connection are so important

Steph Ryan MP

This magazine throws a spotlight on the stories of more than 50 community groups and businesses, and over 110 people in Kilmore.

I’d like to thank each and every person who gave their time to share their stories.

Kilmore Art Expo

Andrea Willis is the sponsor and grants manager of Kilmore Art Expo. A lover of natural art, particularly ceramics, Andrea became involved with Kilmore Arts Society 12 years ago when she and her husband moved to Kilmore from Melbourne.

Once a year, Kilmore Arts Society partner with Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell to stage the Kilmore Art Show. The event has been running for eight years, with proceeds going to local and international charities.

Artistic director Helen Miles says that while the expo focuses on exhibiting high quality paintings, photography, woodwork, ceramics and jewellery pieces are also included. “We have up to 600 paintings entered each year,” she says.

“There are almost $6,000 in awards, which means we attract entries from established and emerging artists,” she says.

Kilmore Arts Society aspires to develop the expo into a festival.

“To do this, we need more volunteers and partners” Helen and Andrew say.

“There is lots of potential, particularly for tourism. We’d love to speak to organisations and people that would like to be involved.”
