Why community and connection are so important

Steph Ryan MP

This magazine throws a spotlight on the stories of more than 50 community groups and businesses, and over 110 people in Kilmore.

I’d like to thank each and every person who gave their time to share their stories.

London Mart

Pauline Cornfoot and her mother Marjorie took ownership of haberdashery and women’s clothing store London Mart 30 years ago. But Pauline already knew the business inside and out. “I was here as a worker for eight years before Mum and I bought the shop,” she says.

Today London Mart stocks a little bit of everything including lingerie, women’s clothes, baby wear and wool and continues to supply sewing goods to the community of Kilmore. Marjorie and Pauline also offer a range of classes including sewing, painting, cushion making and repairs and alterations.

“Our classes are popular at every age level,” Pauline says.

“From 12 to 80 years, we’ve got people coming in. There are five different classes, and they are almost always booked out.”

Pauline is aware that the town is growing and can see employment opportunity increasing in the town. “We’d love to grow too,” she says. “This shop has always been a drapery, right from earliest days. It would be great to continue that tradition.”
