Paul Hendrie doesn’t mind if you call him Paul or PK. The owner of the Red Lion Brewery bought the old pub for the bargain basement price of $1. The months of work that went into renovating the building, however, cost a fair bit more and the results are stunning.
The old bar is now an English-style pub, complete with brewery. The attention to detail, which has seen the building’s original floorboards repurposed as textured beams, is beautiful. Out the back of the building has been converted into an American style diner, serving the burgers for which Paul, who also owns Thornbury’s Kustom Burgers, is famous. And although you’d think beer is the obvious beverage of choice, Paul says people seem to love the Freak milkshakes and “Velvet Elvis cocktails” (a recent once off!).
